It’s December and there is plenty to do in Wimbledon this Christmas!
It’s been an extraordinarily strange and difficult year. Which is all the more reason to dive into the festive spirit. Here are some ideas for lots of fun…
Wimbledon Christmas Markets
There is perhaps nothing better to get one into the Christmas mood than a Christmas market! The sugary and spiced smells, the bustle (socially distanced of course!) and growing excitement is enough to turn any Scrooge into a warm-hearted well-wisher!
This year will be as great as any before, with local artisans bringing their delights and unique gifts to Love Wimbledon’s Market on The Piazza.
You can support your local businesses and find the perfect present at the same time. You can even grab a delicious, hot bite to eat as you shop!
The market is open 11am to 6pm (late nights on Fridays), every weekend from now till 20th Dec.
As there are different stallholders each week, no two markets are the same. The market is open in line with government restrictions.
Wimbledon Reindeer Trail
Here’s a great activity if you’re looking for something fun and free to pass the time. Grab the kids or anyone willing and go on a search for the eight reindeer.
Each one is standing proud at 3 metres tall and vibrantly designed, so you’ll know them when you see them! They are dotted along the centre of Wimbledon from Wimbledon Hill Road down to The Broadway.
The reindeer were designed and built by Wimbledon’s own creative business Firecracker Works. And the trail was produced in partnership with Centre Court Shopping and Love Wimbledon.
There may even be one with a shiny red nose…
Wimbledon’s Polka Theatre presents A Christmas Carol
This classic Dickensian tale of personal transformation is a firm favourite of many. This year, the Polka Theatre presents a new, imaginative and fun retelling of the story.
You will be able to enjoy the 15-minute show from the comfort of your own home. So grab the popcorn and get the family together.
It will be available exclusively from 19th December for those who sign up to the Polka newsletter from now until Christmas. The film is emailed for free.
Created by Ian Nicholson and Sam Wilde, the team behind the viral lockdown hit I Want My Hat Back. Donations to the theatre are welcome.
